front & back cover sketches
Here's the sketch for the front & back cover of the children's book I've been slaving away on for the past two and a half months. I think I might have inadvertantly squished this scan of it a bit in photoshop because it looks a bit weird to me, but you get the idea. I'm going to put the title of the book on the fence and my name and the author's name will go at the bottom. The back cover will have a synopsis of the story on the sheet tacked to the fence.

like the cover layout...great that it feels like a continuation of the narative layout style from the inside pages. How will you go about colouring up...digiatlly in photoshop or trace your layouts onto fresh paper and paint over...? Interested as I'm embarking (finally) on my own kids book (first idea of many) and it's great to see yours in progress.
Ta for looking at my elephants...in answer to your question I have tended to stick with where I'm comfortable (watercolour) but I do get frustrated that it doesn't have the intensity of colour and overpainting that I sometimes want. I need to make the time to translate my digital way of working into 'real' gouache, although everytime I work with gouache I find old watercolour habits creeping back in! Just need to make the time to learn my comfortable style of gouache

Hey Matt,
I usually transfer my sketch onto paper and paint it with acrylics. I really haven't experimented much with watercolours, but I bought some a while back and plan to. I want to be one of those artists who's able to work in many mediums and still have it look like their work. I think it would be great to get an assignment and think "what medium would best suit what I'm trying to express" instead of turning to the acrylics because that's what I'm used to working in.
If you're interested in my process, I did take some photos of some of my paintings in different stages of completion. I'll be posting them.
