front & back cover sketches

Here's the sketch for the front & back cover of the children's book I've been slaving away on for the past two and a half months. I think I might have inadvertantly squished this scan of it a bit in photoshop because it looks a bit weird to me, but you get the idea. I'm going to put the title of the book on the fence and my name and the author's name will go at the bottom. The back cover will have a synopsis of the story on the sheet tacked to the fence.

I did this comp a little while ago in order to figure out what colors I wanted to use. I also wanted to see how their markings were going to look.

I think this is one of the last sketches that I have for the children's book I'm working on. I changed the graffiti on the fence to be more of a scribble. The way I did it in this sketch makes it look like a word. Everyone I showed it too was trying to figure out what it said.

Cleaning up the community

Here's a sketch from the kid's book. It's of Nola Star and Bertha Bear helping to clean up the community. I left room for text in the top left corner.

This illo is a 2 page spread for the children's book. There will be text on the bottom left side on the grassy hill and on the right side in the sky.

Miss Flannigan's classroom

This sketch will have quite a bit of text on it: the top left corner, the chalkboard and above the students' heads. I think Miss Flannigan needs some eyelashes and an eyebrow and I'm going to try another hairstyle on the moose.

I'm going to be posting some of my sketches for the book when ever I have some extra time. My main reason for doing this is to get some feed back from the people who read this blog. In addition to illustrating this book, I'm also designing it. Since I'm not working with anyone other than the author, I think it would be good to hear what other people think. These sketches aren't final so I can still make improvements.
