Aaron James album

Aaron James is Aron James Sorensen, the guy who wrote, directed and produced the film Hank Williams First Nation. It was an independent film made in Alberta that did pretty well in 2005. He was a singer before deciding to try his hand at film making and recently decided to put out an album. His music is kind of a mix of folk and country. If you're interested, you can hear the tracks on his MySpace page.

This album design was for a digipak so instead of fitting into a jewel case the design is printed on heavy card and a clear cd tray is glued onto the inside right panel. I haven't seen a printed one yet, but Aaron has them and said they look good.

Sketches/process for Aron James album

I started working on an album design for Aaron James in October of 2007. Aaron wasn't sure about what he wanted so I did a ton of sketches in the beginning trying to come up with something he'd like. It took a while, and we even changed directions at one point, but he eventually decided that he wanted a suitcase on the front of his album.

Here are some of the variations on that theme which I sent him:

Although he didn't end up choosing this version, I still liked it and painted it for the Calgary Crime Stoppers Gala silent auction (the final was posted on March 14/08).

He ended up preferring a more straight foreward suitcase. This is the sketch we went with:

I'll post the finals tomorrow.

Snow Day!

Yesterday afternoon I didn't wear my coat. There wasn't a spec of snow left on the ground. Today's forecast is +7. This morning I woke up to this:

I love it. It's beautiful and fluffy. My neighborhood is quiet and still - except for the falling snow. And there's so much snow - I'd guess a foot of snow has fallen in the past few hours. And it's not even cold outside, there's no wind. It's lovely.

But the main roads in the city are a mess so after 2 failed attempts to drive to work, I've given up and am taking a snow day:)
