ahnabith gish at cjsw

Saturday night ended up being really fun.

My husband's band, Ahnabith Gish, was being interviewed at our local university radio station, CJSW. They were also playing a few songs live. The band asked me to go along to take some photos of them. Since we were going to be there for several hours, I also brought my sketchbook to entertain myself.

I had never been to the radio station before - it's a pretty cool little space. I really liked the wall of shelved records.

I ended up sketching each of the guys in the band in my children's book style. The sketches turned out alright.

Ahnabith Gish photo shoot with balloons

These are the photos from the Ahnabith Gish photo shoot a few weeks ago which I mentioned here. I drew the boys' portraits on the balloons for the shoot with local photographer Marki Sveen. At the end, we slowly deflated them and liked the way the drawings skewed. The balloons also looked interesting when they were fully deflated.

Ahnabith Gish album art

I recently worked on the art for Ahnabith Gish's new album (out on Oct 4th). It was a collaboration between myself and the band's guitarist, Cian Haley. Cian did a drawing that he wanted to use as the album art. However, Cian doesn't paint so they asked me to do a painting based on his drawing.

I look forward to seeing it all printed. There's some brush strokes that I love that I'm hoping will show up. And the designers have cropped the image in an interesting way. I'll take photos of the album when I get a copy.

I also did portraits of the guys as part of the inside art. I'm pretty happy with how they turned out - I'll post those later.

printed work in the September BeatRoute

I picked up a copy of the September issue of BeatRoute which contains some of my work. In addition to the martini glass, I also participated in the photo which accompanies the Ahnabith Gish article. I drew the band members faces on balloons which the guys then held in front of their faces. I must admit that I was very skeptical about how successful the shoot would be, but the photos turned out pretty cool. I will hopefully get some of the actual photos that show the baloons to post on my blog. The photos were taken by Marki Sveen.
