The class I teach at ACAD wrapped up tonight. Once again I ended the semester with a presentation by Mike Kerr about his illustration work as well as his wife, Renata Liwska's, children book work. As usual, it was great - very interesting and informative. Check out their beautiful and unique work here.
Thanks so much Mike for coming!
I was very fortunate to once again have the pleasure of teaching a really good group of people. Thank you to my students for a great semester.

birthday party - painting process
I finally made some time to paint this sketch on the weekend. I'm not quite finished it, but here's some shots I took on Saturday and Sunday of the work in progress.

i actually won something
To my surprise, yesterday I was informed that I won a set of lovely cards by Jenny Sue Kostecki-Shaw. Since I really enjoy her and her husband, Patrick's blogs I thought I'd plug them on my own blog. Their web site, dancingelephantstudio.com, links to all their projects, including Jenny Sue's illustration work and their chai pilgrimage blog. It's really worth checking out - I especially enjoy their delicious chai recipes.

recovering
Sorry about the lack of posts lately but I've been quite sick - first with the stomach flu and now with some sort of sinus cold. Today was the first time that I've felt well enough and had the energy to do any art.
This black and white illustration is for a local rodeo magazine. They were quite specific, requesting a 'wanted' poster of a bull doing a painting. The space at the bottom is for some information they want to add.

ahnabith gish at cjsw
Saturday night ended up being really fun.
My husband's band, Ahnabith Gish, was being interviewed at our local university radio station, CJSW. They were also playing a few songs live. The band asked me to go along to take some photos of them. Since we were going to be there for several hours, I also brought my sketchbook to entertain myself.
I had never been to the radio station before - it's a pretty cool little space. I really liked the wall of shelved records.
I ended up sketching each of the guys in the band in my children's book style. The sketches turned out alright.

playing with watercolor
These are a couple of experiments I did in my sketchbook this week using watercolor and a bit of gouache.
