Cleaning up the community

Here's a sketch from the kid's book. It's of Nola Star and Bertha Bear helping to clean up the community. I left room for text in the top left corner.

Our Elopement

I took the day off yesterday. I didn't go to my day job and I didn't work on the paintings for my book. Instead, Dario and I went to the park by our house and eloped.
We had a very small and simple ceremony, just he and I and a couple witnesses. I chose my best friend, Erin Horne, and Dario picked his childhood friend from Montreal, Andrew Stevens.

Here are a few pictures that Andrew took after the ceremony.

Erin made us these one-of-a-kind wedding bands. We love them - they're exactly what we wanted. You can't really see the detail in this photo, but the rings are textured and have some blackened areas. They're really cool. Thanks Erin.

Now I'm back to working on the children's book. I'll post some more sketches soon.

Miss Flannigan's classroom

This sketch will have quite a bit of text on it: the top left corner, the chalkboard and above the students' heads. I think Miss Flannigan needs some eyelashes and an eyebrow and I'm going to try another hairstyle on the moose.

Sketch of Bob Rabbit

I just completed this sketch last night. It was one of the sketches that I started with and it has been the hardest one so far to resolve. With most of the sketches, by the third draft I'm happy enough to move on to another one. I must have done 10 drawings of this bunny before arriving at this version. It feels good to have him finished.

The pretty peacock and her chicks

I'm well aware that the female peacock is brown and isn't even called a peacock, but I don't care. This is a children's story and I want to draw a vibrant and colorfull bird. Besides, my illustrations aren't realistic anyhow.

The mother peacock is sad because someone has vandalized her house. I'm still debating if her chicks should be sad too. I was looking at it as if they were too young to understand, that way the illo isn't filled with sadness, but I'm not convinced that's the way to go.

Even though she's a peacock, I decided not to show her tail feathers because she's sad and I thought her tail feathers being down could reflect that. Later on in the story she's very happy and I thought I could illustrate her big fancy tail on that page to help convey her happiness.

The space on the left side is for text.
